Anticipating Extreme Heat & its Impacts Across Industries

We’re approaching summer, and the heat is on.  How will heatwaves (and possible record temperatures) affect energy systems and the industries they power?  And how will industries that rely on outdoor workers (like agriculture and construction) adapt?

This session explores how extreme heat impacts energy systems, heavy industry, and outdoor work.  We’ll highlight how ongoing warming trends and temperature anomalies can drive spikes in demand, and discuss the ripple effects on energy systems and energy-dependent industries, like manufacturing, mining, and chemicals.  And we’ll review regions most vulnerable to heat stress and risks to outdoor workers.  To conclude, we’ll cover ways to anticipate heat-driven risk and make smarter operational decisions across industries on a warming planet.
